    Situation

Baytree is situated in a poor and underserved area in Lambeth, marked by its gang crime, violence, insecurity and trauma. All families we work with are suffering not just from poverty and its consequences: poor health, poor mental health, overcrowded accommodation but also from social isolation. A great barrier many of them is poor use of English and poor literacy. COVID has exarcebated academic progress and added more difficulties for these girls personal and academic growth.

    Solution

We offer a safe and beautiful space where every woman and girl is listened to and feels welcome. For girls we want to run our mentoring programme matching 100 girls affected by Covid and its impact on their learning with 100 mentors. We train the mentors to support the girls through weekly 1-2-1 in their academic and personal growth. This enables the girls that come to Baytree to increase skills, develop confidence and agency, improve their academic achievement and flourish.
