Mobility is hugely important to the young people with complex neurodisabilities supported by Chailey Heritage Foundation, all of whom are wheelchair users. Walkers and trikes provide an opportunity to exercise out of the wheelchairs and maximise an individual's potential for independent movement.

    Situation

The young people at Chailey benefit significantly from the opportunity to be out of their wheelchairs and using their legs and arms. Many of our pupils are currently having to share a relatively small number of walkers and trikes. This limits the number of occasions that they are able to access these activities. It also increases risks, and reduces the time available for each child to use the equipment as the set up needs to be adapted to meet the specific needs of each young person.

    Solution

In order to ensure that all the children and young people at Chailey Heritage Foundation have as much access to walkers and trikes as possible and to benefit fully from the positive outcomes that they support, we need to raise £20,659 to purchase 2 walkers and 5 trikes. The equipment selected will range in size and be adaptable so that they can be accessed by as many of the young people as possible while remaining safe and appropriate to their conditions and needs.
