We are raising funds to build Esperanza Stoves in villages in Malawi. These stoves are our most effective way of tackling extreme poverty with benefits to incomes, health and livelihoods.

Traditional cooking methods on open fires consume large quantities of wood, produce much smoke hazardous to health, are inefficient and time consuming and a great burden to women and girls. It is estimated that 90% of Malawian households cook this way and deforestation rates are unsustainable.
We build Esperanza Stoves and these use 65% less firewood compared to traditional cooking on open fires. The Esperana is much more efficient enabling women to cook more quickly. They are also safer and as a result burn injuries caused by cooking accidents are a thing of the past. The time saved as a result of needing to collect less firewood along with quicker cooking times is transformational for women and girls.
