    Situation

"I feel like my life has been stolen from me. People say once a girl has had a baby she can’t go back to school." Diana, 13, was raped in her home during lockdown. Shockingly, 60% of girls living in the slums of Kampala experienced sexual violence during lockdown & the number of child mothers soared. Girls struggle to return to school & miss out on life-saving pre & post-natal care due to stigma, lack of childcare or money. This is forcing girls into further unsafe situations including sex work

    Solution

Our experienced community based team provide vulnerable girls with ‘girl-friendly’ healthcare including emergency post-rape care, trauma recovery, safe motherhood services & sexual reproductive health. Girls are then invited to join our skills training programme - covering tailoring & business management (with childcare provided). Our team then supports them to secure employment or start a business, helping them to earn a sustainable income & support themselves and their families
