We want to renovate our in-patient unit by redecorating a large communal area and bathroom with calming decor and comfortable furniture. We will also relocate the nurses' office closer to patients' rooms. The renovation will improve the quality of care we offer and help to enrich patients' lives.

    Situation

The large communal area outside patients' rooms is bland and unappealing. Consequently it's unused by patients and families. Patients remain in their rooms and don't interact with others which can severely impact on mental wellbeing. Families limit their visit to the patients' room. Trips to the clinical, uninviting bathroom are as quick and functional as possible. The nurses' office is located at the furthest end of the communal area which is not efficient for a busy hospice in patient unit.

    Solution

We want to renovate the communal area and bathroom to improve patients' and families' wellbeing and make better use of the space. We will redecorate in calming colours, provide comfortable furniture to encourage patients and families to use the area, increasing opportunities for social interaction. The bathroom will be transformed into a place of tranquility and relaxation. Relocating the nurses' station closer to patients' rooms will improve our efficiency and the quality of care we provide.
