Water is the key to life. An essential building block for health, water also allows people to grow crops, rear livestock and build businesses, meaning even the poorest communities can thrive. Water for Life will help 5,000 people in 10 villages in Nepal gain access to safe water using clean energy.

    Situation

People in rural Nepal's hill-top villages urgently need access to safe water. More frequent droughts, accelerated by climate change and water access issues, mean many people in rural villages lack water to drink, wash, grow food and rear livestock. Because of this, traditional agriculture is failing. Men and young people are migrating for work, often crossing the border into India. Women, children and the elderly are being left behind in communities unable to thrive without water.

    Solution

Working in ten hard-to-reach rural villages we will conserve and protect water sources and improve water access using our tried and tested solar powered water pumping technology (SolarMUS), which can pump 47,000 litres of water a day over 200 vertical metres. We will also promote climate-smart farming to help people expand the range of locally grown food and strengthen farming-based livelihoods. The ten installed SolarMUS will provide access to water for 5,000 people.
