    Situation

Women who have been abused by a partner are three times more likely to suffer depression, anxiety or serious conditions such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder than women who have not been exposed to domestic abuse (Source, BMJ 2019). While women with mental health problems are more likely to be domestically abused, with 30-60% of women with a mental health problem having experienced domestic abuse (Psychological Medicine, 2009). Many women and girls who access our service are in a vulnerable emotional state; therapeutic support offers them a safe space to discuss and digest their experiences.
