Situation
The Summer months see an increase in rates of domestic violence. Hot weather can increase irritability. The added stress of having children at home can increase violence as well as provide more opportunities for children to witness or experience abuse. This Summer, the rising cost of living means survivors will face additional barriers. Without the means to secure housing, buy food and pay energy bills, women are being forced to choose between domestic abuse or homelessness and starvation.
Solution
This Summer, we need to be there to answer every call and support every woman and girl who arrives at our doors. Many survivors are forced to flee with nothing. We provide emergency welcome packs with essentials to survive. Our dedicated Family Support Workers will support children and mothers in our refuges with activities and day trips to create new, positive memories. We also provide vital advocacy and counselling support to help women and girls recover from their trauma.
