    Situation

Food insecurity is the highest it has ever been. The cost-of-living crisis is impacting vulnerable women and BWC has recently seen a 42% increase in demand for our foodbank. As well as needing emergency food, the women we support are often coping with other complex issues. They may have physical or mental health conditions, experience isolation and have limited contact with services and support networks. With more women relying on our foodbank we are facing increased costs to support them.

    Solution

We provide food and support to women in crisis at the only women-only foodbank in Brighton. The stigma of not being able to feed their family can stop women from coming to the foodbank but women can use the BWC foodbank for as long as they need to without having to explain their circumstances. We deliver to women who cannot come to the foodbank due to poor health, isolating etc. Trained staff and volunteers provide info on where to access help or refer women to BWC services for further support.
