    Situation

Disconnection with nature has negative environmental and social consequences. Experience from a pilot project has shown that many children in NDevon do not have regular access to or understand nature where they live. A number of students from a variety of backgrounds have difficulty learning in a classroom environment. Local schools do not have the resources or capacity to deliver nature-based education, but recognise its value.

    Solution

By providing opportunities for pupils to learn in nature, a support network at school and supported opportunities to volunteer, we aim to: increase connection with nature; have positive mental and physical health impacts; improve learning outcomes; develop individual skills and confidence; and, increase community cohesion. We want to build an engaged and active cohort of young people working for nature and the community where they live.
