    Situation

Despite its perceived affluence, Richmond borough has a high prevalence of mental health problems with an estimate of 24,500 people living with a mental health disorder, including 4,600 children aged 5-19. Richmond also has the highest proportion of people aged over 75 and living alone in London (51% vs 35% for London). Our art and gardening programme aims to alleviate loneliness and isolation and improve wellbeing for these groups, who have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic.

    Solution

Turner’s House's Wellbeing programme offers high-quality creative workshops inspired by artist JMW Turner. Working in partnership with Age UK and Richmond MIND, the sessions aim to improve mental and physical wellbeing, alleviate loneliness, encourage creativity and build confidence. In addition to the established programme, in 2023 we will pilot sessions for 11-18 year olds receiving mental health support, exploring areas such as self-esteem, identity and friendship through creative activities.
