Funding biomedical research globally into the causes and consequences of ME. Funding first class research at top Institutions to find the answers to a disease which affects at least 250,000 people in the UK alone. ME Research UK doesn't just talk about research - it delivers- & has done for 22 years
Given ME's prevalence and impact, it is widely acknowledged that ME has faced significant under-investment in biomedical research over many years. Within the UK specifically, e.g., ME receives comparatively little funding compared to other neurological disorders. MS affects about 100,000 people compared to the 250,000 estimated to have ME but has received 20 times the funding. The quality of life of people with ME is lower than that of many people with other severe chronic conditions.
ME Research UK is dedicated to ensuring that research into ME reflects the prevalence & seriousness of the illness & to funding the highest quality of biomedical research possible. ME Research UK exists solely to fund biomedical research &, to date, we have invested c£2.5million in biomedical research world-wide on 58 distinct projects & have funded more specific biomedical research ME/CFS projects than any other charitable organisation in the world outside North America. More research is needed
