CRASAC is the only specialist service in Coventry which supports women, men and children aged five and above who have been impacted by sexual violence. Our work helps people overcome the effects on physical and mental health, and regain the lost power and control through counselling and advocacy.

    Situation

Over the last five years the number of people on our waiting list has increased by 350% (over 500) while funding decreased by 10% in the same period. The biggest challenge is that demand far exceeds capacity. This means that many survivors of sexual violence can wait up to 18 months to get the specialist counselling they so desperately need.

    Solution

Last year over 1,000 people were referred to CRASAC, we delivered over 3,000 counselling sessions, and almost 600 clients were supported through the Criminal Justice System. Waiting for counselling to start can feel like a state of limbo for many people and we are keen to provide pre-therapeutic intervention and support for those on our waiting list. A pilot in 2022 of group symptom management workshops proved incredibly beneficial and in many cases, negated the need for one-to-one counselling.
