    Situation

Families in rural Malawi are often very poor, relying on subsistence farming for their food and income and unable to access medical care and education (particularly early years). Children are therefore vulnerable to malnutrition and preventable illnesses whilst also missing out on nursery schooling, which is vital for their cognitive, social and emotional development as well as future success in both primary and secondary school - trapping them in a cycle of poverty.

    Solution

Our Community Outreach Programme helps vulnerable children, who would otherwise be placed in long-term care, to thrive at home. Our matron-led team offers regular monitoring, expertly tailored advice and essentials such as food, agricultural packs, medical care, clothing and more to nearly 300 families in Southern Malawi. Moreover, our nine Nursery Schools give approximately 500 children under age 5 access to early years education, which includes a daily, nutritious meal to combat malnutrition.
