Situation
Despite advances in research, treatments and patient care, 1 in 4 pregnancies still end in loss or premature birth. Every year in the UK, 250,000 pregnancies end in miscarriage and 2,300 babies are stillborn. 60,000 babies are born prematurely, which can lead to a lifetime of health challenges. Right now, 71% of families are not told why they lost their baby. We don’t know enough about what causes pregnancy complications and so can’t give families answers. More research is urgently needed.
Solution
We will conduct vital research to save more babies’ lives. Tommy’s has been researching pregnancy complications for 30 years. The results are lifechanging, preventing thousands of losses with new treatments like progesterone and cervical stitches. We still have much more to do. Your support will help fund our research programme, which aims to better understand what causes problems in pregnancy and how we can best prevent and treat these – so more families can take home a healthy baby.
