We support young refugees so they can cope and adapt to their new lives, heal from trauma and fulfil their potential. We ensure they feel safe and heard, addressing the issues impacting their wellbeing, through our youth development programme, intensive casework and access to vital support services.

    Situation

The pandemic and increasingly hostile government policies have exacerbated the multiple challenges faced by young refugees. Many of those we support are here in the UK, alone, without their families. On arrival, they are frequently disbelieved about their age and experiences. Prolonged delays to legal decisions often mean living in limbo for many years, in unsuitable accommodation and unable to rebuild their lives, experiencing intense anxiety, isolation, fragile mental health and destitution.

    Solution

We often meet young people when they are newly arrived in the UK, providing vital support at the earliest opportunity. Our trauma-informed approach decreases stress and anxiety, preventing escalation of need and further psychological distress. The trusted relationships we develop with young people ensure they feel ready and able to access the support they need. Our Casework service resolves urgent issues quickly and effectively and our youth programme, a sense of belonging and connectedness.
