We're fundraising to work with 30 children with emerging musical talent and from low income families to progress their musical development in partnership with Lewisham Music. Each child will receive tailored musical support including free weekly instrumental lessons so they can keep making music.

    Situation

Right now in Lewisham the opportunities for children to engage in music are uneven and all too often dependent family income. Lewisham has the highest proportion of children and young people (29.6%) living in economic deprivation in England. Through state funding children in primary school currently receive one year of free instrumental lessons. When these free lessons end, children often have to stop learning how to play an instrument if they can't afford to continue.

    Solution

We identify children with the most potential and passion to continue to learn an instrument. We work with referral partners to ensure our support reaches children facing challenging circumstances. Each child will benefit from support for at least two years such as free weekly instrumental lessons, an Individual Learning Plan and a bursary to help them achieve their goals, targeted mentoring and termly enrichment activities. With our help no child will have to give up their musical ambitions.
