We want to provide weekly Play Days that bring together families together from across the community, where children will have fun and be creative together while their parents and carers can also access support locally, from free classes to expert money advice.

    Situation

Our part of East London has so many families with young children. But it also has the poorest levels of public space available to play in London. After school, at weekends and in school holidays there’s hardly anywhere safe and accessible for children and young people to play. This is being exacerbated by the cost of living crisis and years of pandemic restrictions, so many more families are isolated and struggling to make ends meet.

    Solution

We’ll help families and children with structured and open play in our garden and community centre. Alongside this we’ll offer families access to support, from money or legal advice to skills opportunities. Play between children and their parents and friends brings laughter, creativity and movement . It builds empathy and connections between and among families. For parents and carers it offers crucial moments of joy and a break from worries about jobs, the cost of living, debt and loneliness.
