The impact of the pandemic on school children is huge. Many children struggled with their wellbeing and have experienced knowledge gaps in areas such as science and maths. Field trips have been cancelled and children have lost opportunities to experience and learn first-hand. More than ever, young people care about the natural world and want their voices heard on how we should protect it. The Hebrides is an amazing coastal region, of great importance to marine life, in need of protection.

HWDT’s floating classroom provides first-hand, immersive experiences of life aboard our Scottish whale research yacht, Silurian. Due to the pandemic, school children have been deprived of this opportunity. With your help, we will visit some of the most remote locations on the west coast of Scotland. School children will board our research vessel to take part in exciting and interactive sessions designed to spark an interest in the marine environment and inspire the decision makers of the future.
