Wading birds such as Curlew, Lapwing and Snipe are all in severe decline. We want to help save these species' by identifying nesting sites and working with landowners to protect these locations and enhance the habitats to increase populations.

Situation
In the last 50years, many species of waders have been in rapid decline. Some having witnessed up to 80% decline in breeding numbers across the UK. Many, including Curlew, Lapwing and Snipe are now on the red list of endangered birds. They could become extinct if action is not taken to enhance, maintain and secure suitable habitat for nesting and breeding.
Solution
We have long established relationships with landowners in the Braydon Forest, and already have a programme specifically looking at nesting Curlews, and how we can increase their populations through conservation land management and habitat enhancements. We would look to replicate and broaden the existing model to cover additional species of Waders who are also on the red list as species of concern. This would give us an effective programme in the North of the County to identify and support birds
