    Situation

Our work addresses the problem of biodiversity loss, conservation of native UK rare breeds, nature recovery and disconnect with nature. In particular, conservation grazing with Exmoor Ponies is often used in areas where other interventions are difficult, time-consuming or damaging. Remote areas, areas where brown-field or industrial sites are being reclaimed or large areas of wetland, less accessible sites to machinery or where a more natural conservation intervention is required.

    Solution

Our solution is to better coordinate, manage and expand the use of Exmoor Ponies in conservation grazing. Recognised by Natural England as the best native pony to use in this regard. Employing them in conservation grazing helps the breed to survive and due to their natural behaviour they offer excellent benefits for nature recovery, scrub management, requiring minimal supervision and care they provide a low-cost, high output to improve biodiversity across habitats, insects, birds and mammals.
