    Situation

Despite what it may seem on the surface many of West Cumbria Rivers face serious problems - populations of the iconic Atlantic salmon and other species are declining year on year, they face a cocktail of pollutants ranging from nutrients to heavy metals to chemicals, invasive species are a serious threat, and climate change is reducing the resilience of our rivers to both flood and drought risk.

    Solution

We work to improve water quality and biodiversity in rivers, help reduce flood and drought risk through using natural flood management techniques, controlling invasive species and preventing introductions of new ones, and removing physical modifications to rivers. Monitoring ensures we target the right areas. Working with local communities we can create opportunities for people to connect with their rivers and lakes, nurturing an understanding of the issues and working together to improve them.
