Hubbub supports a national network of community fridges which are social spaces that share good quality surplus food. Many community groups and retailers flag that transporting surplus 'the final mile' is a challenge and results in good food being wasted unnecessarily. Community fridges (and other food sharing groups) spend disproportionate time and money collecting surplus food from local businesses. The collecting are often late at night and it can be an isolating task for volunteers.

Food Connect is a service that uses electric vehicles and a paid team of couriers to collect available surplus in bulk to share amongst a network of community groups. It saves more food from going to waste, improves air quality, supports local employment and provides community groups with food that can be shared directly with residents or used for social and community activities. It also frees up volunteers’ time to support other activities. Here’s how your funding will help: £10 will charge an electric vehicle for one day reducing emissions from food redistribution £20 could save up to 150kg of food from going to waste £50 will fill a community fridge with food helping over 50 people in the community £250 will enable 80 individual electric vehicle journeys saving emissions and collecting high quality food £500 will support 1 part-time green job for a month £1000 will run Food Connect for a week which will save over 4 tonnes of food
