We'd like to raise funds to restart our Residential Recovery Program for women wanting to overcome their addiction to drugs and/or alcohol. We provide a unique service in that we are one of few providers that allow women to keep their young children with them whilst they access the program.

    Situation

Research has shown that 58% of women accessing recovery services for drug and alcohol abuse identified as having a child living with them or being a parent, compared with 49% of men. With experience we have learned that women, being the primary caregivers, are reluctant about accessing recovery services because they are worried about losing their children to social services. In most cases the substance abuse begins as a coping mechanism against domestic violence suffered by victims

    Solution

We offer a place of safety and refuge where women can access the recovery program whilst not having to worry about their children being taken into care by social services. Our work/skills program based at the same farm assists women to develop skills for work and a new lifestyle. Access to the day-nursery at our nearby refuge centre enables them up to access the programme of courses which empower their recovery and bring life changes for their own and their family's benefit in the future.
