We believe that we must all work together to accelerate the transition to sustainable energy sources across the globe. Solar lights are a simple, practical way to fight poverty and climate change. We focus on helping people in rural, off-grid communities in Malawi and Zambia, transition from polluting energy sources to clean, safe and sustainable solar power. This year’s Green Match Fund will help us light up the lives of people otherwise left behind so that together, we can protect the planet for future generations.

    Situation

Many of us are fortunate to be able to make choices for a greener planet. For the 578 million living without electricity in sub-Saharan Africa, there is no choice. To light their homes after dark, they have to burn open flames, light a toxic kerosene lamp or use poor quality battery powered torches. These alternatives are dangerous to the health of people and our planet - just one kerosene lamp emits over one tonne of CO2 in just three years.

    Solution

Together, with your help, we can reach families, schools and communities with cleaner, safer solar lights. The millions living without access to electricity in sub-Saharan Africa need help to switch to a cleaner, safer alternative - solar powered light. With just a £40 donation (matched through the Green Match Fund) we can light up 108 lives, save families £3,186 and prevent over 20 tonnes of CO2 emissions from polluting lighting sources. Our solutions are sustainable too - we seek to create a local green energy market that grows and develops over time, helping avoid dependencies on handouts.
