We aim to refurbish our old playground in our Emmeline refuge to create a safe, fun outdoor space for children to play and interact with other families in. This safe, relaxing outdoor environment will help clients as part of their recovery from the effects of domestic violence and abuse.

    Situation

Our homes are occupied by women and children who are vulnerable, as they have had to leave their homes, families, schools and possessions, and sometimes move many miles in order to be safe, away from harm. Our houses become their homes and we aim to offer them a safe space where well-being, dignity and self-respect are promoted. At our Emmeline refuge, the current children’s play equipment is old and well-worn and needs replacing to allow families to make full use of the garden.

    Solution

To refurbish and replace the old playground equipment, creating a safe, fun outdoor space for children to play and interact with other families in. This also includes a dedicated tranquil garden space for the women in the refuge to get respite and recuperate in. Having a safe outdoor space to rest and play with loved ones will help our women and children recover from the immense mental and physical impacts of domestic violence and abuse; improving mental health and wellbeing for our clients.
