We're at a critical moment in time and must take urgent steps to combat the climate emergency. We’ve filed papers to take the government to court over its Net Zero Strategy on the basis that it doesn’t comply with the Climate Change Act 2008. We want you to help us to hold the government to account.

Inadequate action means we’re on course for a catastrophic 3°C of global warming. We don’t believe the government has an adequate plan to address this. In our legal case we’re arguing that there are major shortcomings in both the Net Zero Strategy and the Heat & Buildings Strategy. We believe the government needs to do more to ensure that its plans will deliver the emission cuts that are needed to reach net zero, while taking into account the needs of vulnerable and disadvantaged groups.
We’ve mounted a legal challenge against the government to hold them accountable for these shortfalls. Our case got permission to proceed on all grounds in March, and the hearing will be taking place in June. We're arguing that the Net Zero Strategy does not comply with the legal duties under the Climate Change Act 2008. Under this, the NZS must set out policies that ensure carbon budgets are met. It doesn't, and does not even quantify what the policy package will deliver.
