    Situation

One in five CYP in the UK are exposed to domestic abuse. CYP living with domestic abuse have an increased level of fear resulting in long term mental health issues. Their experiences have a severe impact on their development and the trauma can manifest itself in poor health, poor sleeping habits, poor behaviour and fractured attachment between mother and child. CYP exposed to domestic abuse experience poor self-esteem, low confidence, guilt, shame and relationship problems.

    Solution

Early intervention can break the cycle of abuse - The CYP team run Healthy relationship workshops (recognizing the signs of an unhealthy relationships). We provide immediate practical support and advice to promote safety and reduction in risk of harm. Longer term support to promote emotional and psychological recovery, preventing re-victimisation by providing 1-1 emotional support for CYP age 5 – 19 , parenting support, family work and recovery group work (for mother and young people).
