    Situation

This project will tackle the specific challenges that local young people face. TP is in Southwark, where 43% of children are living in households in poverty. Over the course of a year, 137700 children in the UK miss school because of period poverty, a problem which is exacerbated in areas where poverty levels are higher. The Gang Associated Girls report identified 1000 approx young women across London who are at risk of gang grooming and exploitation, or already involved in gang activity.

    Solution

Long term activities which move our local young people away from anti-social behaviour into positive engagement are vital. We will offer subsidised places on the Ignite Dance programme for local young women, who have limited access to dance training, which they might not be in a position to invest in. Having period products in the toilets in our building will mean that all the young people who come through our doors will have access to them if they need, tackling local period poverty.
