Refugee Women Connect works to build a safe life in the UK for all refugee and asylum seeking women. We provide both practical and mental health support for our service users, and most recently have welcomed women and families who have fled the situation in Afghanistan.

Situation
Many of our service users have fled situations of conflict, persecution, and abuse, and continue to face discrimination and hardship within the UK. In particular, many of our women have survived gender based violence, including sexual abuse and exploitation, and human trafficking. Throughout lockdown, 3/4 of our women went hungry or were unable to feed their children, 1/5 were homeless, and 85% said their mental health had worsened due to isolation and being cut off from support services.
Solution
We provide practical support for our service users, including help navigating the asylum seeking process, essential items like toiletries, nappies & cleaning products, help with housing, school access for children, and English language classes. We provide one-to-one mental health support for women recovering from trauma, as well as group wellbeing sessions to combat isolation and loneliness. These include our art group, yoga classes, a choir, a football team, group discussion etc.
