As the UK's only employment charity solely for women with convictions, we will work in partnership with women with lived experience of the criminal justice system to create support for employers, to overcome prejudices which prevent them from employing talented women deserving of a second chance.

    Situation

Building a career is difficult enough for anyone, but for women saddled with a criminal record, the barriers to fulfilling employment & financial independence are even greater, often following them around long after their sentence has ended. Poverty is one of the main reasons why women end up in the criminal justice system and unemployment increases the risk of reoffending. Prejudice amongst employers is a huge barrier that needs dismantling to enable women with talent to obtain a second chance.

    Solution

Working with women who have lived experience of the criminal justice system but are now thriving in the workplace, we will deliver a programme to help employers understand why they should hire women with convictions & support them to do so; including an employer handbook, awareness raising & training. Experts in this field, we will help businesses feel empowered to change hiring practices and take on a hugely talented & motivated cohort of women, consequently making society a more equal place.
