Working to engage with BAME women and girls in Bedfordshire to reduce the impact of covid-19, isolation, mental health and domestic abuse as it has affected them more than main stream communities. We will provide counselling, confidence building, emergency accommodation if fleeing abuse and food.

    Situation

    Consequences of Covid-19 for disadvantaged Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic women, and girls. Covid-19 lockdown has had serious impact on BAME girls and women due to cultural, traditional and religious beliefs. 10% had their mobiles were taken away from them. Covid-19 has made traditional practices, such as female genital mutilation and forced marriages, more difficult to monitor and according to Karma Nirvana and IKROW According to Woman Kind BAME women have suffered more economically

    Solution

    • Run 30 classes ESOL and 10 IT to improve English and use of media • Run 15 skills and development sessions to improve confidence and opportunities into better paid employment or improve education qualifications. • Raise awareness to end early forced marriage or FGM • Provide counselling support to reduce mental health and anxiety • Run events providing information, support, legal advice on all forms of abuse, housing, health to improve lives • Train professionals on cultural barriers
