In 2022 we will deliver four regional fun days, inviting all girls attending GFS. Each girl attending GFS faces a unique set of challenges, exacerbated by their gender and the impact of Covid-19. Fun days will engage girls in activities designed to promote friendship, wellbeing, and confidence

    Situation

We run groups where girls are experiencing reduced opportunities through financial disadvantage, as informed by Plan International UK. Research shows that gendered social biases experienced as a child, reduce aspirations and confidence. This is worse for girls living in areas of deprivation and commonly linked to antisocial behavior, low school attainment and poor physical and mental health. Opportunities have been further reduced by COVID, leading to increased anxieties, and reduced outcomes.

    Solution

We will host 4 regional fun days where girls from all our groups can grow in confidence and aspirations by meeting people who are different to them, experiencing new things and exploring their independence outside their home environment. Activities will challenge and inspire girls. Previous fun days have included activities like learning about women from the region who have achieved inspiring things and testing their bravery with adventure activities such as high ropes.
