This Empurple Week, support women and children to flee to safety and rebuild their lives following the trauma of abuse. Our welfare project aims to provide support for emergency needs eg travel, food vouchers, household items and, when women are ready, support to resettle and create a safer home.
It ran from 12:00 PM, 8 March 2022 to 12:00 PM, 22 March 2022

A key tactic abusers use to dominate their partners is economic abuse, which can leave women without access to their own bank accounts or any income. This can make it incredibly difficult for a woman to leave her abuser. If she is able to escape the immediate danger, she may have no access to money for basic needs including food and clothing. As such, women often come into our accommodation with nothing more than the clothes they are wearing and desperately need help to rebuild their lives.
This International Women’s Week, your support will enable The Haven to provide emergency support for women when they need it most, e.g: • Cover taxi costs to flee abuse • Purchase food and basic essentials eg nappies • Cover transport to set up a bank account/register with a GP • Purchase clothing for themselves and their children • Purchase essential household items when resettling into the community eg washing machine • Ensure their new homes are secure, through additional locks or alarms
“I would like to thank all for help and support. BIG thank to my support worker! I can’t be more grateful for what you have done. I can never thank enough. I am in a much better place and I wouldn't be I am today without The Haven.”
‘I want to thank you and your team for the amazing and life-saving work you do. If it were not for you and your colleagues, myself and my daughters might not be alive today.’
