HART is raising funds to purchase and equip mobile education vans to reach displaced children who are out of school in Nigeria. The project seeks to ensure quality education for all by bringing education to children who have fled conflict and are residing in displacement camps or host communities.

    Situation

To date, Boko Haram has killed more than 27,000 civilians in Nigeria. For the last 8 years, children born in north and central Nigeria have only known conflict, violence, and displacement; a sad reality that is ongoing. Given the scattering of children across camps and host villages, in addition to the persistent threat that physical school buildings face from Boko Haram, the use of mobile education vans is a considered attempt to enhance project success and sustainability.

    Solution

After years of broken promises and a lack of adequate action by the Nigerian Government and the international community, the displaced citizens of Nigeria's central region (whose communities have suffered almost daily massacres) have given up hope of being able to secure a safe and normal life for them and their families. For 15 years, HART has worked with and through local partners to support community visions for their own development. This project idea came directly from our Nigerian partner.
