Getting on Board is a trustee recruitment and diversity charity. It’s our guiding belief that board diversity is key to effective decision making, better delivery of a charity’s services and the broader goal of creating a more equitable society.

    Situation

Charity sector boards do not reflect wider society or the communities they seek to serve. Only a third of trustees are women, a third are under 50 and only 8% are people of colour. 59% of charities say that their boards do not reflect the communities they serve. 75% of trustees are from households above the national median for household income. This negatively affects charities' resilience and capacity. Only 14% of boards say that they feel well equipped to meet their challenges.

    Solution

Getting on Board supports people to become charity trustees, particularly those who are from one or more groups currently under-represented on trustee boards. That means supporting helping more women, people of colour, young people, people with disabilities, LGBTQI people, people with a diversity of lived experience, and so many others to become trustees. We also help charities to recruit and retain trustees from a diversity of backgrounds and lived experiences.
