    Situation

Vulnerable wildlife species are facing extinction across much of Africa to keep with a growing demand for the illegal wildlife trade, which is putting not only biodiversity at risk, but also societies, economies and the health of our planet. Species, including elephants are being hunted to such an extent that one elephant is killed every 20 minutes in Africa and pangolins are the most trafficked animal in the world with more than 1 million being traded in the past decade alone.

    Solution

DSWF supports ground based conservation partners across Africa who implement highly effective and successful conservation projects. We work directly with local communities to support positive messaging around wildlife and promote sustainable livelihoods away from the illegal wildlife trade. We also work with other key organisations to influence policy and end wildlife trade at governmental levels. However, we understand that these take time so we protect some of the last populations of species.
