We're raising funds to ensure young people from disadvantaged backgrounds - such as those living in poverty, refugees, or young offenders - can develop the universal skills they need to change their lives, and the lives of others, through the 'The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award' programme.

    Situation

Today, young people across the world face unprecedented challenges, as their wellbeing, inadequate access to education, and lack of decent work are all under severe pressure. Formal education is vital, but alone it is not enough to ensure they have the skills to tackle life’s many challenges. Unequal access to education means millions of young people will not develop the skills and knowledge they need to support themselves, to become world ready, or to be a force for good in their communities.

    Solution

The Award is a globally recognised framework for non-formal education and learning, challenging young people between 14-24 to develop transferable skills, increase their fitness levels, cultivate adventure and volunteer in their community. We established the Special Projects Grant Giving Programme to provide grants for projects that aim to increase access to the Award for young people from at risk and marginalised backgrounds.
