In rural Togo, 8 in 10 households live without access to power. Families trapped in a cycle of poverty, have little choice but to burn expensive fuels to light their homes. We believe everyone should have access to affordable, clean energy. Help us bring light and opportunity to rural communities

    Situation

When the sun goes down in rural Togo, households without access to clean, renewable energy, must rely on burning dirty & expensive kerosene to light their homes. These fuels produce harmful carbon emissions, which is the 2nd largest contributor to climate change. Inhaling household air pollution causes respiratory diseases & premature death, particularly in women and children. Families have no choice but to shoulder the cost of burning biomass fuels to keep earning or studying into the evening.

    Solution

Clean, renewable energy was previously out of reach for families living in poverty. This project will distribute solar lamps to families living in hard-to-reach communities, who can pay for them in small instalments, enabling them to light their homes Solar offers a safe, affordable way to light homes and businesses, improving health and economic stability and reducing carbon emissions. Using solar lamps will reduce the household income spent on energy and allow families to start saving.
