    Situation

COVID-19 has disproportionately affected young people, exacerbated inequalities and reduced the life chances of an entire generation. 1.4 million youths in the UK face unemployment as a direct result of the pandemic. The creative sector is one of the hardest hit by the crisis. There are concerns that financial pressures will impact efforts to increase diversity and inclusion in the arts. Cuts to arts education too is reducing access for young people who face disadvantage or are underrepresented.

    Solution

NYT works with young people from diverse and marginalised backgrounds from across the UK. We target underrepresented youths from culturally diverse backgrounds, with learning disabilities, not in education, employment or training and from LBGTQI+ communities. 1 in 4 members report a hidden disability or mental health challenge. NYT is committed to providing onstage and backstage opportunities that are open and inclusive. Our Bursary Fund, free training and inclusion programmes make this possible
