Young Music Makers focuses on accessible music education for all ages, increasing youth attainment and strengthening community cohesion in our local area of North London, COVID-19 has caused continuous loss of income for many families, people have become isolated and lonely. Further government cuts to arts education leaves schools and local councils so overwhelmed that they are unable to prioritise provision for students who thrive in a creative arts setting.
We take bursary referrals from community organisations, schools, Camden music hub and direct applications. We will continue to promote our bursary scheme widely, prioritise building relationships with other local organisations, work to the goals set out in our inclusive education policy, including the provision of "decolonising music education" training for all staff, to ensure a diverse and inclusive learning environment.
Both my teachers are amazing and they are both really fun...Learning music calms me down when I am feeling anxious.
Being able to play music individually and work towards a target, I find provides a structure and rhythm to my everyday life, [...] it teaches you discipline and hard work. This effects your mentality when it comes to learning [...] you become more level headed and strong minded.
We're happy to support YMMs young artists. Being taught by working musicians and having plenty of opportunities to play live is a great way to start.
It really means a lot to be part of the YMM community. The bursary really gave my child an opportunity to have a chance at their dream of learning to play guitar and piano. Without the bursary they would never have learned an instrument and their confidence would have been what it was 3 years ago.
