    Situation

The Gambian Ministry for Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) statistics show that there is a total of 445 Government-run Lower Basic Education schools in The Gambia. Of those only 22 (5%) have safe water for drinking and hygiene. Covid-19 reached Africa recently and the impacts of this coronavirus are expected to be severe and long-term. Every country in the world is currently emphasising the importance of handwashing with clean water and soap; to stop the spread of coronavirus.

    Solution

WellBoring will deliver safe water for 10 Gambian school-centred communities, in the form of 10 rehabilitated borewells, for schools with the greatest need in the respective areas. We will train Gambians in community engagement and in repairing borewells. We will be giving out soap to participants in the hygiene training at the schools. We will equip these communities with the water, soap, and the knowledge needed to wash their hands.
