    Situation

40 years on from the start of the HIV and AIDS epidemic in the UK, we are seeing more and more people living with HIV reaching older age. Older people living with HIV face different challenges to younger people. Having faced stigma and discrimination since the 80s, much of which remains today despite advancements in treatment, half of older people with HIV are living under the poverty line, one in three are socially isolated and one in five describe their wellbeing as bad or very bad.

    Solution

Our Age Positive programme aims to address the needs of older people living with HIV, providing services to improve wellbeing, provide better access to healthcare and to reduce isolation (as many people living with HIV do not have family support). We will do this through a range of services within this programme including one to one support, skills-based training, information sessions, social opportunities and volunteering opportunities.
