Situation
The UK has shocking health and social inequalities which impact pregnancy and the early years. For example, black women are 4 times more likely to die in pregnancy than white women and a baby born in Blackpool is 13 times more likely to be born to a mother who smokes than a baby born in Westminster. Inequalities are caused and perpetuated by inequity in the provision of healthcare services and by a lack of parental confidence, knowledge and know-how in the transition to parenthood.
Solution
We will engage and empower mums, dads, co-parents and caregivers of all ages and backgrounds so they can look after their mental and physical health and maximise their children's long-term physical, mental and emotional development. We will achieve this through our soon-to-launch new version of our NHS approved Baby Buddy app which will provide personalized daily evidence-based information for all parents and through enhancing and promoting the app in partnership with our growing Parent Panel.
