    Situation

Dementia is a public health issue affecting 1 in 14 over the age of 65 and 1 in 6 over the age of 80. The likelihood of developing dementia roughly doubles every five years. Getting a dementia diagnosis is highly significant for both the patient and the carer and has a huge impact on wellbeing and relationships. As well as challenges in day to day living, both the patient and the carer experience social isolation, low mood and stress.

    Solution

Developed in partnership with Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, the weekly workshops support referred patients AND their carer by helping them adjust to their new 'normal', following diagnosis. Using varied art forms and our specialist skills, the activities help to stimulate declining brain and memory function, build self confidence and give a shared joyful experience which creates new memories. Carers also benefit from invaluable respite and a support network.
