Prospect Hospice cares for patients with our long established Prospect@Home service, which supports dying people in their own homes. Until recently we had NHS funding to provide this service. As we approach Christmas, we seek funding to care for patients through the night over the winter months.

Situation
The problem is that there are always more patients and their families who want this service than we can provide carers for. This creates the sometimes heartbreaking situation where we have to tell desperate people, caring for a dying loved one (or sometimes patients themselves) that we cannot send them a carer for the night. Funding from the Big Give means that we can go some way towards eliminating this highly disappointing situation for our patients and their often exhausted families.
Solution
The simple solution to this is funding. With more money, we can increase the number of Prospect@Home ‘night sits’ that our team can provide. With an expanded pool of professionals available to support patients through the night, fewer will have to face nights, when they are close to the end of their lives, with the uncertainty of not knowing if one of our team will be there for them. With funding we can provide comfort in knowing that someone will be there with them.
