Covid has hit children’s mental health hard. In every classroom several are struggling – with depression, anxiety, or abuse. Without support their emotional wellbeing often deteriorates. Some are self-harming or having suicidal thoughts. Please donate so we can place specialist youth workers in schools to give children the help they need.

    Situation

The young people who need Eikon’s support struggle with a range of complex issues. They may be a victim of racist or homophobic abuse, or struggling with a family loss, or feeling anxious and unable to leave their room for days on end. Overwhelmed with anxiety or depression some young people deliberately harm themselves, on occasion with fatal consequences. Uncertainty created by global issues such as climate change and COVID-19 have added to the anxieties young people have to cope with.

    Solution

Eikon provides highly trained Youth Specialists in secondary schools. They provide targeted 1:1 and group support throughout and after the school day, offering a safe space for students to come and share the things that are troubling them. Support includes mentoring and coaching, lunch clubs, art clubs and gardening clubs. The Schools Youth Specialists is fully embedded into the life of the school, working closely with staff to ensure that each young person in need receives appropriate, effective help.
