Situation
Power2 works with young people from low-income backgrounds or in the care system, and who have social, emotional and mental health needs such as being excessively withdrawn or isolated, having anger management challenges and/or being at risk of becoming NEET or involved in crime. Many have low confidence, self-esteem and motivation. 25% are at risk of school exclusion and all are disengaged from learning. Lockdowns and school closures compounded and entrenched these challenges.
Solution
Teens and Toddlers provides participants with a sense of responsibility and purpose and supports improvements in wellbeing through a 16-week reflection, development, and interpersonal skills curriculum. By supporting a toddler in a nursery young people who felt ‘on the outside’ become active contributors engaged in their own development and futures. This manualised intervention has been evaluated and continuously improved since 2001 and unlocks potential by focusing on young people’s talents.
