Sebastian's Action Trust provides support to an increasing number of bereaved ('butterfly') families. Our aim is to provide specialist support for the whole family for as long as we are needed. In the past year the number of children supported by the Trust who have passed away has risen by 95%.

    Situation

There can be no greater loss than the death of a child and there are currently few options available for families. We aim to provide support to every member of the family through counselling, specialist activity events, annual remembrance service and access to respite breaks at The Bluebells. We also identify the need to provide more pre-bereavement support which includes memory and keepsake-making opportunities as well as support with practical and emotional preparations for a child’s death.

    Solution

We will continue to enhance our pre-bereavement and bereavement support to an increasing number of families by our specialist team which will include tailored sessions for parents, siblings and grandparents including end of life support sessions. Families can also access the Trust's holiday home The Bluebells in Hampshire for 'butterfly' breaks. The Bluebells has a special garden of remembrance where our annual remembrance service is held and wellbeing and therapy treatments can be accessed.
