Situation
Abortion Without Borders exists in response to draconian anti-abortion laws in Poland, which mean that abortion is criminalised in almost all circumstances, including fatal foetal indication. People who need abortions are forced to buy early medical abortion pills online, or travel to countries for the care they need. For people grieving a wanted but unviable pregnancy, this process takes a huge toll on mental health, as well as being logistically difficult and expensive.
Solution
Abortion Without Borders works in partnership to connect women, pregnant people and their families with information and support. A 7-day-a-week Polish helpline provides advice and support, fielding 840 calls a month on average, and referring people to AWB partners outside of Poland if they need to travel for an abortion. We provide logistical support with arranging travel, accommodation, interpretation and other support, and we provide financial support for people who need it.
